NRV Tools: A Modular WordPress Toolkit
How I Designed NRV Tools, a Modular Extension That Brings Together an Agency’s Most Frequently Used Tools (GDPR, Disclaimers, Cache, etc.) Without Slowing Down Websites.
Background
NRV Tools is a modular WordPress plugin designed to streamline the work of designers and developers at an agency by consolidating recurring features without slowing down websites.
When I first began working with the NRV agency during the COVID-19 pandemic, the need was clear: to avoid installing a dozen separate plugins (tarteaucitron, Google Reviews, etc.) by combining them into a single, optimized tool.
A Modular Architecture
Each feature is encapsulated in an independent submodule that can be activated on demand. The benefit:
- loading only the code that’s actually needed, to conserve server resources;
- maintain fast loading times;
- upgrade or fix each module without affecting the rest.
Intelligent Resource Management
Each submodule declares its dependencies (Bootstrap, JS/CSS libraries, etc.), which are loaded only once even if multiple modules require them—a resource-sharing system that optimizes performance.
Comprehensive internal tools
Beyond the technical aspects: maintenance management (notifications to clients/project managers), an API to retrieve the status of a remote site (extensions, updates), password-protected admin panel, library management (SlickSlider, DataTables…), Analytics, Tag Manager, custom reCAPTCHA…
The result
A robust, high-performing, and maintainable foundation that has become the agency’s core toolkit—a concrete example of structured and sustainable WordPress development.
